Born to Central American Pirates, Jose Carlos Mirandez grew up at sea. His father ran a very lucrative black market weapons  operation from his fleet, until he was finally arrested by authorities. The younger Mirandez inherited the fleet and "business", and decided to make it "legit" after the birth of his only daughter, Maria, by getting proper licensing to make and sell military grade weapons. He worked hard making connections with other manufacturers, as well as numerous smaller weapons designers looking for an outlet for their designs, and soon built up a solid reputation as a fair businessman resulting in numerous contracts with various military forces and private concerns. As a result, Buccaneer Industries soon became one of the top weapons suppliers in the world producing everything from small arms to heavy ordinance and combat vehicles, as well as subcontracting with other suppliers. One of his biggest successes was winning a contract to supply the US Military Special Operations Command for their ongoing campaigns in the Middle East war. When Maria was a teenager, one of Mirandez' most trusted men, one Argus Glaive, attempted to rape her. Mirandez and Glaive fought and Mirandez lost his left arm when the giant cut it off with his namesake polearm, but Maria was safe and Glaive was driven off.  Glaive vowed to finish what he had begun: to kill Mirandez and deflower Maria in front of him as he dies, thus creating an enmity that has persisted for years. a new Cybernetic replacement soon had the Buccaneer back in business. It was during his dealings with the US military in the Middle East that he began his association with Delta Force CSM Steven Harrison Panther, a relationship which would become very important later. On one of his supply trips to the Persian Gulf for the US, Mirandez once again ran afoul of his nemesis when the latter boarded his ship and again tried to take Maria. This time, the left side of Mirandez' face was heavily scarred by a booby-trap grenade set on the door to Maria's room by Glaive, and triggered by Marc Helrich just ahead of Mirandez. Once again, Glaive was driven off by Marc and a young Shinobi, Kageto, but both Mirandez and Marc were seriously injured, and soon they were all forced to abandon ship when it came under attack by enemy forces. Slipping in and out of consciousness, Mirandeez told Maria that they needed to find "el Guerrero Noche" (the Night Warrior). The group crammed into the Wraith Striker's tight cockpit, and evacuated just before the ship sank and made their way inland. Setting down in a mountainous region, they soon rendezvoused with Panther in the caves he had set up as his base of operations against the "Caliphate" forces. Maria treated her father's and Marc's injuries, including crafting a mask for her father to cover the horrific scars around his left eye. His recovery was long and arduous, especially given that they were now stuck behind enemy lines. That didn't stop Mirandez for long, however, and, deciding to make the most of the situation,  as soon as he was recovered, he used his connections with the local Bedouin and Kurd rebels to make contact with the main US forces as well as his company fleet to get supplies rolling in with Marc flying the Wraith as their primary means of moving cargo in as well as ferrying Mirandez to meet with the local US SOCOM commander, General Graves. Over the next few months, Mirandez began to notice a change in his daughter's relationship with Marc. Much to the older man's chagrin, they had become "very close" since they'd all been "stranded", and this soon set off Mirandez' fatherly over-protective instincts. When it was revealed that Maria was carrying Marc's child within her, Mirandez nearly throttled the younger man before Panther stopped him. Surprisingly to Mirandez, the normally immature and irresponsible Marc, rose to the occasion, and he and Maria were soon married in an impromptu ceremony. Not long after, however, Maria was abducted by Glaive along with another young woman. It would take nearly three months before they tracked down the villain to a Caliphate base and mount a rescue. During the battle that ensued, Mirandez once again crossed blades with his giant nemesis. The battle with Glaive was long and grueling, neither gaining the upper hand. Where Glaive had the advantage of size and reach, Mirandez' agility and skill with the Rapier proved very effective in countering the giant's attacks. Fate intervened, however, and the fight was interrupted as the team withdrew after Maria was rescued, along with the body of her companion and they soon made it out of enemy territory and eventually on board a US Navy ship headed for home.

Personality and Motivations:

Proud, and often a bit arrogant, with a strong flare for the dramatic, Jose Carlos Mirandez fancies himself in the vein of the great pirates and swashbucklers  of old, such as movie legend, Errol Flynn, and the notorious Calico Jack, and Captain Morgan of the 18th century, and his dress exemplifies that image, down to the mask covering the upper felt part of his face, his gleaming silver left arm, double-breasted coat, wide cuffed boots and flowing opera cloak, and the Damascus Steel Rapier at his hip. Often loud and boisterous, but always the gentleman, he'd rather stride into a room with a flourish than simply walk in. Behind all of his eccentricities, however, is the mind of a shrewd businessman, well-versed in both corporate and underworld politics. It was this keen mind for business, and his talent for deal-making, that enabled him to turn his father's illegal operations into one of the top legitimate weapons companies in the world to date, and Mirandez is determined to keep Buccaneer Industries on top and expanding into other fields of technology for years to come.
